Above | Below GBC publishes this site at abgbc.com. This page says what the site collects, why, who handles it, and how to stop it.
What we collect
An email address, if you give one. Subscribing to the newsletter or signing in as a member stores your email address, the date you joined, and which newsletters you receive. Nothing else is asked for. If you take a paid membership, payment is handled by Stripe; we see your name, email, membership tier and payment status, never your card number.
Reading activity, if you are a member. When a member opens a newsletter email or signs in, the publishing platform records that the email was opened and which pages were visited while signed in. This is used to see whether the writing is being read. It is not sold, shared or combined with any other source.
Ordinary server records. Like every website, the host records the pages requested and the browser type. These are kept briefly by the host for security and operation.
The site sets no advertising cookies and runs no third-party advertising or tracking scripts.
Who handles it
- Ghost Foundation (Ghost(Pro)) hosts the site and holds the member list and newsletter records.
- Stripe processes payments for paid memberships and sets its own cookies on pages where its script loads.
- Mailgun sends newsletter email on Ghost(Pro)'s behalf.
- Proton provides our email at info@abgbc.com.
Each processes data under its own privacy policy. None of them is permitted to use the member list for any purpose of their own.
Your choices
Every newsletter email carries an unsubscribe link. A member can change or delete their account by signing in and opening account settings, or by writing to info@abgbc.com; we delete the record on request. Deleting an account removes the email address and reading history from the member list. Payment records that Stripe is required to keep for accounting stay with Stripe.
If you are in California, you may ask what personal information we hold about you and ask for its deletion. Write to the address below. We do not sell personal information.
Retention
Member records stay while the membership is active and are deleted on request or when the account is deleted. Server records are kept by the host for a short operational period.
Changes
This page is dated. If the practice changes, the date changes with it and the change is described here.
